Premium ALEXANDRE LANDRE - PARIS

Estimate €1,200 - €1,500
Description
YAZD carpet Iran. Mid-20th century. Wool pile on a cotton backing. The outer frame consists of a main navy-blue border featuring a garland of intertwined old rose, royal blue and emerald foliage, within which are arranged four angular medallions and four turquoise floral side panels, embellished with a floral wreath. Four cream and ivory counter-borders featuring garlands of small flowers complete the design. This encloses a long, ruby-coloured field with alcoves, from which emerges a large, oblong, cruciform medallion with arrow-shaped marine motifs, featuring rich, polychrome plant motifs inside and a bluish floral wreath on the outside. The medallion is itself delineated by an inner frame, in royal blue with a scattering of small flowers, divided into four angular panels in ivory and sky blue featuring a star-shaped floral composition. Inner ivory highlighting and a garland of multicoloured flowers following the contours of the field. Serrated ruby braid. A sublime decoration known as the ‘holy book cover’ motif.
