Description
LORI PAMBAK carpet
Caucasus–Armenia. Late 19th century.
Wool pile on a wool backing.
A navy blue field (spandrels) featuring small trees of life forms the backdrop to a cherry-coloured counter-field, at the centre of which sits an ivory, serrated, lozenge-shaped medallion with a honeycomb-patterned anthracite latticework, adorned with Median stars incorporating plant motifs. Two large, oblong, multicoloured, multi-lobed floral corollas complete the design. The frame is divided by a central ivory border featuring a floral garland, flanked by two further navy blue borders with a succession of polychrome florets. This fine example of Armenian craftsmanship is truly impressive.
