A very important ARTSAKH/KARABAGH gallery carpet
Caucasus–Armenia. Late 19th century.
Wool pile on a wool backing.
A brick-red ground features a multicoloured ‘Herati’ floral design comprising small flowers and leaves set upon delicate floral stems. Small diamond-shaped motifs arranged in a staggered pattern form almost imperceptible medallions. The border comprises three pistachio and sky-blue bands featuring garlands of small flowers. The edging is serrated and speckled.
