Caucasus – Armenia. Third third of the 20th century.
Wool pile and cotton backing.
A brick-red field dotted with entomological motifs, gems and small Median stars forms the backdrop for three multicoloured, interlocking, cruciform geometric medallions featuring kotchaks, framed by small celadon panels and crocheted lozenges with stylised plant motifs. Border featuring a garland of oak leaves and polychrome calyxes arranged in a staggered pattern. Serrated chestnut-coloured highlights. Beautiful design.
