An important and magnificent OUCHAK-SMYRNE carpet
Asia Minor. Late 19th century.
Wool pile on a wool foundation.
An ivory field features a delicate salmon-pink cruciform floral medallion and its pendants. It is surrounded by floral and leafy scrollwork. The four pastel-coloured plant-motif spandrels feature large, fully bloomed flowers. Two counter-borders frame the main salmon-pink medallion; all three feature floral motifs.
