France. First third of the 20th century
An ivory field features a scattering of delicate pastel floral stems. The border consists of a figurative ‘moulded’ frame in old gold and old rose, adorned with acanthus leaf scrolls, embellished with raised panels featuring ivory coats of arms, decorated with flowers and crowned in the corners. Four shell-motif compositions are positioned at the cardinal points. The whole is set against a purple background, which brings out the best in the piece. A beautiful piece.
