Description
Arthur Dupuy ‘Le Sillage du filet’
Diptych · 2 canvases, 120 × 80 cm ·
*Sillage du filet* brings together two of Arthur Dupuy’s pictorial languages: ‘Noir de Mars’, sculpted into the material as a tribute to Pierre Soulages’s explorations of black and light, and IKB blue, in reference to Yves Klein. In this scene of
night-time fishing, the black reliefs evoke the waves and the movements of the sea. Their surface catches and reflects the light, much like the waves illuminated by a trawler’s searchlights.
In the centre, a net laden with fish unfolds in IKB blue, as if illuminated by the lights on the boat’s aft deck.
The design, the material and the reflections extend the trawler’s movement through the waves: the diptych
forms a single scene, permeated by night and light.
