Description
"Correspondence] Paul CLAUDEL (Villeneuve-sur-Fère 1868-1955), French playwright, poet, essayist and diplomat, member of the Académie française.
Correspondence consisting of 44 autograph letters signed ""P. Claudel" or "P. Cl. (except for one unsigned letter containing a few words in red ink), all addressed to Roger-Daniel Gasparetty, almost all accompanied by a stamped envelope addressed successively to Boulevard Belfort or Avenue Pasteur in Montreuil, Boulevard Kellermann and Rue Telles de la Poterie in Issy-les-Moulineaux.
Paul Claudel's letters are written from the family home at Château de Brangues or from rue Hoche, and run from December 1936 to December 1944, comprising 53 pages in-8, 8 pages in-12 and one half-page in-4.
All the letters, including the two telegrams but excluding the last one, are accompanied by their typed copies.
This important correspondence with his friend Gasparetty shows their bond of friendship; they discuss religion, literature and moral questions; it is a vast spiritual correspondence.
It is accompanied by 10 typed copies of letters from Roger-Daniel Gasparetty, from July 1937 to August 1938, two typescripts and two other copies from January 1945 and 1946 from Victor Gasparetty."
