Description
Pierre-Ambroise RICHEBOURG (1810–1875) Gilded brass and leather telescope Inscription: “Richebourg, Optician and Engineer, Pupil of Vincent Chevalier, 69 Quai de l’Horloge, Paris.” 19th century. (Dented) Pierre Ambroise Richebourg (1810–1874), an optician and photographer, was trained and employed by Vincent Chevalier. Following Chevalier’s death in 1842, he took over the workshops at 69 Quai de l’Horloge, which became number 29 after a period of payment. Having served as an apprentice, he was renowned as an excellent optician. He manufactured all manner of equipment within his field of specialism, including photographic equipment. A pupil of Daguerre, who taught him the daguerreotype process, he was one of the first to produce images rectified using a mirror. (…).
