Niece of King William II of Sicily, Rosalie of Palermo lived from 1130 to 1160, spending most of her life recluse in a cave on Monte Pellegrino, near Palermo. Legend has it that angels brought her a crown of roses. Patron saint of Palermo, Nice and Naples, Saint Rosalie is traditionally invoked against the plague and earthquakes. In her iconography, she is depicted wearing her robe and crown of roses, with a crucifix and a skull and crossbones as a reminder of her penitence. - Expert : Cabinet Turquin
