Description
CHINA
An embroidered tapestry frieze, worked in very fine tapestry stitch and running stitch on linen canvas, using multicoloured silk threads and gold and silver metallic threads, decorated with seasonal flowers (peonies, chrysanthemums, lotus flowers), foliage, scrollwork, birds (pheasants, birds of paradise) and small animals, arranged in a continuous horizontal band. The design is characterised by great finesse, a rich palette, monochrome effects and a fine command of detail, particularly in the rendering of the plumage.
