An Italian painter, Andrea Pozzi trained in Rome under Stefano Tofanelli. He
developed a neoclassical style still influenced by the Roman Baroque
tradition. Admitted to the Academy of Saint Luke in 1805, he took part in several
major decorative projects, notably at the Quirinal Palace and the
Torlonia Palace. Close to the circle of the famous sculptor Antonio Canova, he also produced
religious paintings for several Italian churches. His
career culminated in his appointment as president of the Academy of
Saint Luke in 1830.
