Description
A follower of François de TROY (1645–1730) Portrait of a woman in a blue dress Oil on canvas, oval format H 88 cm W 49 cm Restorations Relined Our beautiful portrait of a woman evokes the style of François de Troy, particularly through the richness of the drapery and the subtlety with which the subject’s character is captured. François de Troy ranks amongst the most important French portraitists of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Alongside Hyacinthe Rigaud and Nicolas de Largillière, he contributed to the revival of court portraiture, combining the splendour of the fabrics with the refinement of the depiction.
