Our painting is a copy of the right-hand section of a composition by Gillis van Tilborch. This composition was frequently reproduced between the 17th and the late 19th century. Earlier copies were known
under attributions to David III Ryckaert (1612–1661) or Willem Kalf (1619–1693).
