Description
FRENCH SCHOOL, first half of the 16th century
Saint Jerome the Penitent in the Desert
Oil on panel.
H_39 cm W_33 cm
Restored.
This painting from the first half of the 16th century offers an interpretation
that blends elements from several schools. Indeed, this panel reveals
Italian and Flemish influences; one can easily discern a resemblance to the
painting by Perugino held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Caen. This painting
is, moreover, in a remarkable state of preservation, both in terms of the
painting itself and its frame.
