Peter Casteels the Younger was a Flemish painter of the Golden Age who specialised in
landscapes and still lifes. This painting is typical of his body of work
featuring harbour scenes, often intended for the French market, which was very
fond of them.
We would like to thank Professor Jan de Maere for confirming that this work
is by Peter II Casteels and his workshop, following an examination of
photographs (written correspondence dated 25 May 2026).
