Description
Chest of drawers with an ornate front in walnut and walnut veneer (cracks, slight scratches). It has three drawers arranged in three rows at the front (restoration to the lower left-hand corner of the top drawer). Removable handles decorated with fluted rosettes (some requiring reattachment) and bronze keyholes, marked with a crowned ‘C’ (signs of wear). The front legs are in the shape of lion’s paws. Provençal craftsmanship, 18th century. Height: 91 cm – Width: 131 cm – Depth: 64 cm Note: the hallmark featuring a crowned ‘C’ refers to a tax levied in France under Louis XV between 1745 and 1749. This one-off tax on metals was intended to finance the war effort during the War of the Austrian Succession.
