Description
[Autographs] The GAUTIER family: - Théophile GAUTIER (Tarbes, 1811–1872), poet, novelist and art critic. Partially handwritten statement of account, issued to Théophile Gautier on 30 March 1846 by Gillet, the eldest son, signed in the novelist’s own hand. (1 page, in-4) - Théophile GAUTIER the Younger (1836–1904), man of letters, translator, dancer and administrator, son of the writer Théophile Gautier and his mistress Eugénie Fort. A signed autograph letter reserving an office on Rue Contrescarpe in the name of Prince Radziwill (1 page, in-12). - Judith GAUTIER, known as Madame Catulle Mendès by marriage (1845–1917), woman of letters, daughter of the writer. Three signed autograph letters addressed to Alexandre Hepp: the first proposing his collaboration on his newspaper *La Dépêche d’Orient* – “I may, perhaps, be able to contribute usefully (...) by providing you, each week, with a review of Chinese and Japanese periodicals” – a second thanking him for his contribution to her newspaper, and a third, illustrated, thanking him “for the most charming way in which you have honoured *La Libellule*” [a collection of poems translated from Japanese, *Les poèmes de la Libellule*]. (5 pages, in-12 format; two of the letters bear the letterhead ‘30 rue Washington’.)
