Louis Ernest BARRIAS (1841–1905) Nature Revealing Itself to Science A very rare bronze edition with a richly nuanced brown patina, based on the original plaster or clay sketch used to design the well-known final model produced by the Susse Frs. foundry from 1895 onwards. Signed ‘E. BARRIAS’ on the plinth of the naturalistic terrace, inscribed ‘To my dear friend Levillain’ and dated 1903 No foundry mark (sand casting) Circa 1895–1903 Provenance: - the family of Ferdinand Levillain (1837–1905), sculptor, medallist, engraver and friend of Barrias Height: 27.5 cm Width: 11.5 cm Depth: 10 cm Another similar model, inscribed ‘To my dear Vernon – With affectionate regards’, was offered at Artcurial on 16 June 2020.
