Marcelle Loubchansky (1917–1988) Composition Ink on paper, signed at the bottom centre, mounted on canvas, 52 x 35.5 cm Condition report: Framed A self-taught artist, generally associated with the Tachist and Nuagist movements, Marcelle Loubchansky advocated ‘the free outpouring of creative forces’. She developed a unique technique, consisting of mixing petrol with paint, which she would then pour directly onto the canvas. This allows her to visually manipulate light and shadow, thereby evoking a sense of infinity. Her compositions unfold as deep, colourful and translucent cosmoses, which seem animated by a shifting breath.
