Pierre Pallut (1918–1999) Abstract Composition 1989 Oil on canvas, signed lower right, dated and bearing the studio stamp on the reverse 81 x 54 cm Provenance: > The artist’s studio > Artcurial, ‘Abstract and Contemporary Art – Australian Aboriginal Art’ sale, 3 July 2012 – lot no. 94 > Private collection, Brittany Like Pierre Soulages, Pierre Pallut’s work is a perpetual quest for light within a limited colour palette. In 1946–1947, as part of the exhibition ‘Black is a Colour’ at the Maeght Gallery, his works had particularly impressed Georges Braque (with whom he collaborated in 1953 on the ceilings of the Etruscan rooms at the Louvre) and Pierre Bonnard.
