Pierre Pallut (1918–1999) Abstract Composition 1991 Oil on canvas, signed lower right and dated on the reverse 65 x 50 cm Provenance: > The artist’s studio > Artcurial, ‘Abstract and Contemporary Art – Australian Aboriginal Art’ auction, 3 July 2012 – lot no. 96 > Private collection, Brittany Like Pierre Soulages, Pierre Pallut’s work is a perpetual quest for light within a limited colour palette. In 1946–1947, as part of the exhibition ‘Black is a Colour’ at the Maeght Gallery, his works particularly caught the eye of Georges Braque (with whom he collaborated in 1953 on the ceilings of the Etruscan rooms at the Louvre) and Pierre Bonnard.
