In 1946–1947, as part of the exhibition ‘Black is a Colour’ at the Maeght Gallery, his works particularly caught the eye of Georges Braque (with whom he collaborated in 1953 on the ceilings of the Etruscan rooms at the Louvre) and Pierre Bonnard.
