Like Pierre Soulages, Pierre Pallut’s work is a perpetual quest for light within a limited colour palette. In 1946–1947, as part of the exhibition ‘Black is a Colour’ at the Maeght Gallery, his works attracted particular admiration from Georges Braque (with whom he collaborated in 1953 on the ceilings of the Etruscan rooms at the Louvre) and Pierre Bonnard.
