Description
Jean-Baptiste ISABEY (1767–1855). 5 letters, dated 1824 and undated, to his friend Holier (56 Rue de Provence); 1 page in-8 each, with addresses (one letter has a small tear). Invitation to dinner (Sunday 6 January). ‘The devil is at work (for this is his play)’, he receives tickets for the Théâtre de la Renaissance, whilst Holier was due to come ‘to sample our fine pâté’ (3 March). New Year’s greetings (Thursday 1824). He dines every Monday at Corvisart’s, at La Garenne. ‘Our little Henry is no more. Look round the house and see how my friends’ glances follow the remains of my dear little friend. We are truly miserable’ (Monday 9 March).
