Description
Claude MONET. Autograph letter, Giverny, 21 May 1916, [to his friend Gustave Geffroy]; 3 pages, in-8, in black pencil, with a ‘Giverny’ letterhead by Vernon Eure. He had “written to Mirbeau to ask whether, given the fine weather, he might be able to come over for lunch here; his wife replied that he is still too weak and that it is out of the question for the time being”. Monet therefore suggests “postponing the little gathering until later, either August or September, as a meeting of the Goncourtists without Mirbeau seems to me to be out of the question”. As for his own health, “I’m all right, although I feel myself growing older and tiring more easily”.
