Description
48. 48AR BERNARD CATHELIN (1919–2004) Large red and black still life, 1990 (Passeron, 293) Colour lithograph on Japanese paper Signed and inscribed ‘Artist’s proof’, edition of 10 numbered copies Printed by Atelier MORI, Japan 122.5 x 242.5 cm The print was produced at Atelier Mori in Sakaki, Japan, the only workshop capable of producing lithographs of this monumental size. For this exceptional project, Atelier Mori was entirely dedicated to Bernard Cathelin for five weeks. Thanks to his consummate mastery of lithography, the artist was able to successfully complete this work of remarkable scale. The print was produced on the famous flatbed press designed by Mr Mori himself, a press over six metres long for which a dedicated workshop was built. The numbered prints remained in Japan; only the copies reserved for the artist and the publisher were brought back to France, which explains the great rarity of these works on the European market. Provenance Acquired directly from the publisher by the current owner
