ROBIDA. A - MEUNIER CH. ONE-OF-A-KIND COPY The Old Towns of Flanders Paris, Dorbon, c. 1909 Large 8vo (290mm x 200mm), bronze morocco, two pieces of leather incised and inlaid into each cover featuring a stylised castle and mill, signed Charles Meunier, mosaic spine with 4 raised bands, interior edging in matching morocco, gilded fillets and fleurs-de-lis, gilt edges, untrimmed, morocco slipcase with mosaic spine, slipcase (Charles Meunier, 1909).Included at the front of the volume are 3 autograph postcards signed by Robida in Dorbon, 3 handwritten sheets by the engraver Henri Boutet, a full-page watercolour signed by Robida in Dorbon, the proof for the final print, 7 draft cover designs, including one original drawn in colour, 3 different portraits of Robida, the frontispiece in 10 states and the other illustrations in 2 states. 2 loose bookplates of different sizes but identical in design, drawn by Robida and engraved by Courboin. At the end of the volume is the prospectus, three full-page watercolours signed by Robida and two ink drawings, two proofs of the illustrated spine, three bookplates drawn by Robida, including that of the Dorbon bookshop, Robida’s own, on the Route de la Plaine in Le Vésinet, and the one for the Maison du Livre on Rue de la Bienfaisance. A sumptuous and unique publisher’s copy, richly illustrated and printed on Japanese paper, bound by Meunier and preserved in its original condition.
