VERLAINE PAUL-CONSEIL – AUTOGRAPH SONNETS, SIGNED Conseil, May 1895, For Louis Dorbon. An autograph sonnet signed by Verlaine and a signed draft of ‘Conseil’. Consisting of 2 folios in-8. Original cover, colour-illustrated with flowers and a profile of Verlaine, signed by Valéry. EAS from the author to Dorbon on the first folio. Printed transcription of the sonnet. Contained in an 8vo volume in red half-shagreen with Bradel corners. Slight wear to the binding. Enclosed within the volume are several loose documents: a printed menu illustrated by F.A. Cazals depicting Verlaine in full-length at the Paul Verlaine banquet at the Palais d’Orléans in Paris on 28 May 1911, and two letters to Louis Dorbon from the 1950s concerning Verlaine, including a curious and perhaps previously unpublished anecdote about Verlaine and Cazals, as well as an old handwritten note on the origin of the sonnet, taken from Verlaine, *Oeuvres Poétiques*, published by Gallimard. A beautiful illustrated and engraved bookplate from the Louis Dorbon bookshop on the inside front cover, signed by the famous H. Somm. Precious and rare documents.
