In-4, bound in full red morocco with boards decorated with a black morocco listel in a double frame of gilt fillets surrounding a repetitive geometrical mosaic of lozenges in fawn morocco surrounded by bold and light gilt fillets, identically decorated ribbed spine, gilt titling, spine ribbed and decorated identically, gilt titling, dark green morocco doubled spine flaps framed with gilt fillet and set with copper, triple endpapers including the first one in burgundy silk, double fillet on the edges, gilt edges on witnesses, red half morocco half ribbed dust jacket with band and cover, gilt titling, shaped slipcase, lined with red morocco (binding: E. Maylander). E. Maylander) - Ex-libris of H. Bonnasse - 208 pp, [3 ff., list of 115 members, completed, blank]. Illustrated with 70 etchings by Jouas including 1 frontispiece, 1 title vignette, 55 in-t, 7 culs-de-lampe and 6 historiated lettrines. Edition of 150 copies on Marais vellum, this one justified and signed in pencil by Ch. Jouas "Unique copy including the original drawings, the trial edition of the engravings and the printing orders for Monsieur Marcus". It contains bound in one volume: 1° - The single print run of the text, all the illustrated pages of which bear the print order signed by the artist and the printer (Porcaboeuf). 2° - The complete suite of 70 original coloured pencil drawings with the layout of the text, sometimes handwritten, sometimes printed and signed by the artist. 3° - 3 large original drawings in in-4 format with slight differences from the final drawing (signed and captioned). 4° - The portrait of Jouas engraved by Royer, with a fine letter from Jouas to Marcus. 5° - The complete suite of etchings (64 pll. plus 6 integrated lettering). 6° - 9 single proofs of various plates either hammered, partially erased or refused. 7° - The 2 original copperplates (frontispiece and page 15). 8° - 24 pieces of handwritten correspondence addressed to Marcus relating to the preparation of the work and Marcus's wishes concerning the composition of his single copy: 16 letters from Jouas - 5 letters from Abel Monnot - 3 letters from Porcaboeuf. 9° - 3 typescript letters on the letterhead of the Sté des Bibliophiles Comtois addressed to the members, signed by Monnot, concerning the progress of the printing of the work. 10° - Announcement of the death of Jouas and Monnot, thank-you card sent to Marcus by Mrs Jouas. It is worth noting that the colours used by the bookbinder are those of the city of Besançon. This is an exceptional copy, enabling us to follow the artist's work step by step, from the preparatory drawings and the various phases of engraving to the final work.
