Duchène (Père). - Broken windows, by the real Father Duchène, deputy to the Estates-General. Printed for the first time in 1789, in three editions, and reprinted by order of the Nation, in 1791, two years after the conquest of liberty. Fourth edition. Paris, Chalon, 1791 et l'an 2 de la Liberté. 8 volumes in-8, contemporary marbled basane, framed with a cold fillet on the boards, spine ribbed and decorated, slight wear on the boards, rubbed or missing headpieces, red edges, wear on the hinges, a few browned quires, a few freckles and stains - These 8 volumes contain 400 letters of 8 pp. each (50 per volume), each entitled "Lettre bougrement patriotique du Véritable Père Duchène. - Inserted in the first 4 volumes: First volume: "Les Vitres cassées" (24 pp.); L'Ami des soldats, Suite de l'Ami des soldats (16 pp). - Second volume: "Oraison funèbre d'Honoré Riquetti, ci-devant comte de Mirabeau, Prononcée au Caffé Procope. Paris, Chalon, 1791, 14 pp. - Volume 3 : Ordre et Marche de la traduction de Voltaire à Paris, le lundi 11 juillet et sa profession de foi. De l'Imprimerie du Cercle social, 1791, 8 pp. - Volume 4: La Constitution française, Présentée au Roi par l'Assemblée Nationale, le 3 septembre 1791. Paris, Baudouin, 1791. [1 f.], 37 pp. Father Duchène, whose real name was André François Lemaire, spoke out on behalf of the poorest people with undeniable success, leading to the republication of his feuille volante. His writings should not be confused with those of Hébert, who also published under the name Père Duchesnes but whose printer was Denis Tremblay. Rare.
