Paris, Michel Lévy frères, 1863. 1 volume, in-8°, later binding in red half-maroquin with corner caps, ribbed spine decorated with the author’s name, title and date in gold, gilt head. (Bound by M. Godillot) Spine sun-faded. Covers very clean, and spine well preserved. Minor knocks to the edge, nothing serious. Collated and complete: half-title, title page, 474 pp. 1 f. Table of Contents. First edition on printing paper and very first printing, with all the characteristics inherent to this volume; including the error ‘effraya’ for ‘effrayèrent’ in line 24 on page 5, and the word ‘Syssite’ spelt ‘Scissite’ on page 251, line 18. (Carteret). A fine copy, clean inside and free from foxing, with generous margins.
