Flaubert (Gustave) – Jourdain (Henri) *Through Fields and Shores*. Paris, Carteret, 1924. 1 volume, in-4°, bound in full dark green morocco, with a slipcase in half-green morocco with a band, and a edged slipcase. Spine with raised bands, author’s name and title in gold, blind-stamped and gilt fillets, a mosaic band framing the blind-stamped fillets in lighter green morocco. Similar decoration on the covers. All edges gilt on endpapers; inner covers in green morocco framed by a gilt fillet. Flying endpapers of green moiré. (Bound by Semet and Plumelle). Spine of the slipcase sun-faded. Cover and spine preserved. A print run of 225 copies on Rives vellum, this being no. 47. The book is illustrated with fifty-three original colour etchings by Henri Jourdain. This copy is enhanced by a lovely original full-page colour watercolour depicting Rosporden, signed by Henri Jourdain. At the end of the book there is a black-and-white sequence of the illustrations. Superb illustrations depicting Brittany as Flaubert described it. A perfect copy, free from foxing, in a superb binding skilfully executed by Marcellin Semet and Georges Plumelle.
