Description
Heredia (José-Maria de) – Rochegrosse (Georges) *Les Trophées*. Paris: Ferroud, 1914. 1 volume, large quarto, bound in full red morocco, with a bordered slipcase. Spined with gold fillets framing the panels, accompanied by a mosaic of brown and aubergine morocco leather; author, title and date in gold. The covers are framed with a design similar to that on the spine. Endpapers in aubergine morocco with gilt fillets and a mosaic of green and brown morocco. Flying endpapers in multicoloured moiré. All edges gilt on endpapers. (Bound by Durvand). A slight mark at the bottom of the spine of the second cover, measuring two centimetres, of no consequence. Covers and spine intact. A print run of 512 copies. This copy, no. 78, is printed on grand Japon paper and contains two states of the etchings, including the state with annotations. Some plates are in three states. The copy is enriched with a long handwritten letter signed by José-Maria de Heredia to Leconte de Lisle, a card addressed to Mr Ferroud, dated 17 November 1917, signed S. Rochegrosse, and finally a visiting card of Mrs J.-M. De Heredia with a brief note of apology, undated. The copy is enhanced by a very fine colour watercolour signed by G. Rochegrosse. A very fine copy, free from foxing, in a splendid Durvand binding.
