Description
Mistral (Frédéric) – Droit (Jean) *Mireille*, a Provençal poem. Paris: Éditions d’Art Piazza, 1923. 2 volumes, large 8vo, in a bordered slipcase. The first volume in French, bound in full Empire-style green morocco, ribbed spine with author’s name, title and gilt fillets in the panels, 8 gilt fillets framing the covers, gilt head. Green morocco framing the orange moiré endpapers on the inner covers, guilloché edges with gilt lines. The second volume in Provençal, half-bound in Empire green morocco with corner pieces, spine identical to the first, plain paper endpapers. Gilt head. Both bindings are signed by Gruel. The covers and spines of both volumes are preserved; only the French-language volume is numbered and illustrated in colour by Jean Droit. This volume, one of 725 copies on vellum, bears the number 229. Two very clean volumes, free from foxing.
