Molière: The Works of Molière, preceded by a note on his life and works by M. Sainte-Beuve, with vignettes by Tony Johannot. Paris, published by Paulin, 1835/1836. 2 substantial volumes, large 8vo, bound in half-brown long-grain morocco with covers edged in brown morocco. Later binding. Spine of the cover features faux raised bands with gilt decoration; the author’s name, volume number, date and bookbinder’s name are gilt, along with a mosaic of green four-leaf clovers. Slight scuffing from handling; spine sun-faded. (Bound by Huser). 2 volumes bound as published, with full margins and their attractive covers. A few scattered foxing spots; some repairs to the covers, particularly visible on the spine of Volume II. Copies from this period that have remained in their original binding are rare. A fine, well-preserved copy.
