Description
Sand (George), *Letters from a Traveller*. Paris: Félix Bonnaire, 1837. 2 volumes, in-8°, later binding imitating period bindings. Black half-basane with corner pieces, ribbed spine with gilt fillets, decorative gilt metalwork in the panels, author’s name and title in gilt, gilt capitals. (Huser binding). Covers and spine preserved, copy with all margins untrimmed, fine printing on laid paper. Collated and complete; Volume I: half-title, title page, 422 pp.; Volume II: half-title, title page, 414 pp. Copy possibly washed, with great care. First edition. These two volumes of *Lettres d’un voyageur* actually constitute Volumes XV and XVI of the *Œuvres complètes* published by Félix Bonnaire, which comprise 27 volumes. Clouzot writes, regarding this edition published between 1837 and 1842: ‘A very rare, complete and most important edition. Indeed, many works appear here for the first time. ’ (Clouzot, pp. 243 and 250). A very fine copy, free from foxing, with superb sky-blue covers.
