1 volume in-12, later binding in full black morocco, ribbed spine with author, title and date in gold, all edges gilt, gilt fillet on the cuts. Burgundy morocco endpapers, flying headbands of navy blue moiré. Case edged in black morocco (Huser binding). Spine slightly sun-faded. Collated and complete. Covers preserved without the spine. 4 ff. Numbered pages, including half-title and title page: 163 pp. Printed by Jouaust on 28 October 1866. Cover bears the date 1867 in Arabic numerals; the title page shows 1866 in Roman numerals. According to the BNF, the print run of this collection was 491 copies, published at the author’s expense by Lemerre and financed by Elisa Moncomble, Paul Verlaine’s cousin. First edition, a fine copy with a few scattered pinholes. The first and most sought-after of Paul Verlaine’s collections.
