Verlaine (Paul) *Romances sans paroles*. Paris, available from all booksellers, 1874. 1 in-12 volume, later binding in old rose morocco, ribbed spine bearing author and title, all edges gilt, grey morocco endpapers, flying endpapers in moiré with floral motifs. Half-morocco slipcase in old rose with overlapping flaps, edged (Huser binding). Slipcase spine sun-faded. Collated and complete. Covers and spine preserved, 1 blank folio – 48 pp. - 1 half-leaf 1 blank leaf. A small bookseller’s description card for a copy similar to this one has been inserted before the half-title page, creating a dark mark on the half-title page and the blank leaf. Inscribed by the author in ink in the top left-hand corner: ‘To Michel Lay, (very) cordially, P. Verlaine’. First edition printed in a run of 300 copies, of which no large-format copies were produced. A superb, rare copy, very well bound, with a dedication by Paul Verlaine.
