Description
Chateaubriant (Alphonse de) – Jourdain (Henri) Monsieur des Lourdines. Paris, Éditions d’Art Devambez, 1929. 1 folio volume, bound in brown half-maroquin with bands, the centre of the covers covered with marbled paper. Plain spine with author, title, illustrator and date in gold lettering, gilt head. Cover and spine intact. A few pinholes on the cover. One of 20 copies from the first edition printed on Japanese paper in the original format, containing the plates and headpieces in their three states: first state in black, second state in black with annotations, final state in colour; the watermarks in their unique in-text state; also containing an original drawing by the artist. This copy bears the number 4. The original drawing is enhanced with watercolour, signed in pencil and measures 20 x 15 cm. It is mounted on the leaf preceding the half-title page. A very fine, foxing-free copy of the first-paper edition of a work that is already rare in its own right.
