Description
Gineste (Raoul) – Minartz (Tony) *Soirs de Paris*. Paris, printed for Henri Beraldi, 1903. 1 volume, in-8°, bound in lemon-coloured half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets, with the author’s name and title in gilt, gilt headband. Untrimmed, covers preserved without the spine (Lemardeley binding). Normal wear and scuffing on the fore-edges and in places on the spine. A work printed in a run of only 138 copies on Marais vellum, the sole paper used. Copy no. 2, printed especially for Madame Henri Beraldi, bearing her bookplate. A work describing Parisian nightlife, illustrated in black by Minartz and engraved by Paillard. A lovely vignette on the ‘printed’ page depicting the author, the publisher, the illustrator and the engraver. Henri Beraldi (1849–1931): in the 1920s, his library was ranked amongst the four most famous libraries. In 1934–1935, Beraldi’s books were put up for auction and sold off over a period of thirteen days. As both an author and publisher, he produced reference works that are still highly regarded today. A clean copy, free from foxing.
