Hémon (Louis) – Gagnon (Clarence) *Maria Chapdelaine*. Paris: Éditions Mornay, 1933. 1 volume, in-4°, bound in full havana morocco with a half-morocco slipcase, bearing the title and a bordered case. Smooth spine with author’s name and title in gold lettering, blind-stamped and gilt fillets, gilt head. Endpapers with morocco framing and gilt fillets, moiré endpapers. (Bound by Ch. Vermuyse). The slipcase requires minor restoration. Cover and spine intact, bearing an ex-libris by L. Van Malderen. A copy from the first print run, one of 100 copies printed on pearly white Japanese paper; this one bears the number 50. A very fine copy, illustrated in colour by Clarence Gagnon; a considerable undertaking that took three years to complete the printing of these illustrations. Undoubtedly the finest edition of this great classic, which is of great significance in Quebec.
