Description
Morin (Louis) *Montmartre s'en va...* Paris, printed for Jean Borderel, 1908. 1 volume, large quarto, modern binding in black half-shagreen with corner pieces, ribbed spine with engraved author’s name and title. Covers preserved without the spine. Fifty numbered copies were printed from this volume; this one, unnumbered, was printed specially for Mr Th. Mortreuil. A copy free from foxing, though curiously bearing pinholes on the half-title page; the work is illustrated with 31 colour etchings by the author and is accompanied by two black-and-white plates, one of which includes a note. A rare work by this famous French illustrator, caricaturist and painter. His first illustrated contribution dates back to 1880 for the newspaper *La Caricature*. At *Le Chat Noir*, he produced the drawings for Maurice Vaucaire’s *Carnaval de Venise* for the shadow theatre. From January 1900 to January 1901, he edited and illustrated *La Revue des quat’ saisons* for the publisher Paul Ollendorff, producing over 400 illustrations. From November 1900 onwards, he contributed to publications by the publisher and bookbinder Charles Meunier. He was awarded the gold medal at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris.
