Description
Samain (Albert) – Chessa (Albert), *Symphonie Héroïque*, published by Ferroud in Paris, 1908. 1 paperback volume, in-8°, with black-and-white illustrations by Charles Chessa. A copy from the first edition printed on heavy Japanese paper, featuring two states of the etchings, one of which includes a note. No foxing. Enclosed is a second, virtually identical copy, also on Japanese paper, but featuring four states of the engravings, one of which is signed by Chessa; the former owner (Edouard Denis) had a watercolour title page commissioned to acknowledge the work of colourist Henry Varade, who, in 1948, enhanced the suite signed by Chessa with watercolour, adding his own signature to the plates. A very fine copy, unusual and unique.
