Description
Le Braz (Anatole) – Méheut (Mathurin) *Au pays des pardons*. Paris: Albert Richard, 1937. 1 volume, in-4°, in full navy blue morocco leather with a bordered slipcase. Gilded bands forming a geometric design on the front cover; plain spine with author’s name and title in gilt; gilt head (Loutrel binding). Covers and spine intact. A few rare, scattered foxing spots; minor restoration required on the slipcase, nothing serious. A copy printed on Arches paper, specially produced for Mr Emile Lainé, who was the printer of this work, responsible for the engravings and typesetting. The volume comprises 53 colour woodcuts by Mathurin Méheut, engraved by Georges Beltrand. This copy is enhanced by a very fine drawing on the first blank page, watercoloured and signed by Mathurin Méheut, with a dedication signed ‘To the master printer Lainé, with warmest regards and in memory of a pleasant collaboration, M. Méheut’.
