Adam (Paul) – Renault (Malo) *The Black Serpent*. Paris, for the Hundred Bibliophiles, 1913. 1 paperback volume, large 8vo, grey covers illustrated and embossed in colour and gold, with slipcase and case, minor flaws to the slipcase. Printed in a run of 130 copies; personalised copy no. 92 for Georges Teyssier. The book comprises 108 etchings and drypoints drawn and engraved in colour by Malo Renault. The illustrations required studies from life, gathered in the Vannes region, on Belle-Île-en-Mer and in Cornouaille; these studies were carried out between June and October 1909. First illustrated edition of this novel, set in southern Brittany, from Belle-Île to the Pointe du Raz. The text block is partially detached from the spine. A very clean copy, featuring a colour drawing (28 x 21 cm) in pencil and charcoal, signed by Malo Renault and dated ‘Saint-Malo 1914’.
