Description
Elder (Marc) – Savignon (André) *The People of the Sea*. Paris, Les Editions nationales, 1946. 1 volume, in-4°, bound in brown half-maroquin with corner caps, spine featuring a geometric embossed pattern, author’s name and title in gold, a gold stamp depicting a ship, gilt headband. Minor scuffs from handling, spine very slightly sun-faded, no foxing. Covers and spine intact, no. 275, one of 300 copies on pure-fibre paper. Lithographs and drawings by André Michel. Included is one in-4° volume in loose sheets, in a slipcase and green cardboard box, entitled *Filles de la pluie, scènes de la vie ouessantine*. The box and slipcase have some damage. A clean copy with no foxing, copy no. 375/600 on Marais rag vellum. These two novels won the Prix Goncourt: ‘Filles de la pluie’ in 1912 and ‘Le Peuple de la mer’ in 1913, a prize won against *Le Grand Meaulnes* by Alain-Fournier and *Du côté de chez Swann* by Marcel Proust. 2 volumes
