Folio size, ½ violet chagrin, chagrin-textile covers decorated with gold and blind-stamped designs, ribbed spine entirely adorned with gilt metal fittings, gilt title, gilt head (publisher’s binding). ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATED EDITION containing 525 ENGRAVINGS, including 50 as separate plates and several in colour. COPY preserved in its BEAUTIFUL DECORATED PUBLISHER’S BINDING. From the library of ‘Désiré Gallié ’ (bookplate), also known as Désiré Jean-Baptiste CHRISTIAN (1846–1907), a French master glassmaker who collaborated with Charles and Émile GALLÉ at the Meisenthal glassworks; he is known as one of the pioneers of Art Nouveau and founded the École de Nancy in 1901.
