Description
[TOULOUSE]. DUROSOI [FARMIAN de ROSOI (Barnabé), known as]. ANNALS OF THE CITY OF TOULOUSE, dedicated to His Grace the Dauphin. Paris, Veuve Duchesne, 1771–1780. Five parts bound in four sturdy quarto volumes in porphyry calfskin, with triple gilt fillet framing on the covers, a five-ribbed gilt spine, a garnet morocco title label, and marbled edges (contemporary binding). A small loss to the upper cap of volume 1, a tear to the upper cap of volume 2, five blunt corners, scuff marks and small losses of leather on several covers. FIRST EDITION, illustrated with 5 engraved PLATES. This historical compilation, commissioned by the capitouls of Toulouse, is intended as a supplement to the works of CATEL and LAFAILLE, drawing chiefly on the Annals of the Town Hall. Its author, the Parisian Barnabé FARMIAN de ROSOI, known as DUROSOI (1745–1792), was honoured with the title of citizen of Toulouse and received a substantial reward. He made extensive use of the notes of Charles-Geraud de BOUSQUET, a councillor at the Parliament, and particularly those of BENECH, who drafted the supplement published in 1780, which constitutes the fifth part of this work. From the LIBRARY of the Marquis DADVISARD, with a heraldic ex-libris pasted to the inside front cover of each volume. A PLEASANT COPY in uniform contemporary binding, complete with the SUPPLEMENT, which is often missing. ¶ Barbier, I, 195 – Hermet, 11600 – Limouzin-Lamothe, 142.
