Description
Reprints of old texts, 5 booklets: - *Le banquet du boys*. Paris, Lainé & Havard, (circa 1850), in-8 vertical booklet, 8 unnumbered leaves. Unbound, with a printed pink paper cover. - A fresh copy. (From the ‘Portefeuille de l’Ami des Livres’ collection). Printed in Gothic type on laid paper. The last leaf and the spine of the cover bear the emblem of the publisher René Muffat and the printed inscription ‘De la Bibliothèque Mazarine’, which undoubtedly supplied the copy. *Le Banquet du boys* is a Gothic poem comprising 53 stanzas of 7 decasyllabic lines. Early copies are impossible to find, and there are four 19th-century editions. The ‘Portefeuille de l’Ami des Livres’ collection, edited by René Muffat, featured anastatic reprints of Gothic pamphlets, generally printed in runs of 300 copies. - LACOUR (Louis). The Works of the Count of Chevigné. The Muse of Champagne in the 19th century. Critical, candid and previously unpublished notes. Venusville, under the sign of the Wings of Little Cupid, in the year of love 1080605. [Paris, Jouaust Press], (1865), in-16 booklet, 52 pp. – 2 folios. Paperback. Crumpled corners, cover slightly soiled, small pinholes on the endpapers. One of the gift copies, on laid paper. First edition printed in a small run: one hundred copies for sale, plus an unspecified number of ‘gift’ copies. 2 woodcuts, one at the beginning, the other at the end. A witty note on the ‘Muse Champenoise’ by the Count of Chevigné. For the author, Chevigné’s work is the resurrection of the immortal characters created by the verve of our forebears, who, having forgotten nothing of their past lives, give free rein to this whimsical existence in the heart of the Champagne countryside (p. 21). (Vicaire IV, col. 807). - [BRECHILLET (Etienne)]. Bontemps’s ‘nopces’ [sic] with Burgundy in 1636. Unpublished play attributed to Etienne Bréchillet. Dijon, Darantière, 1887; in-12 booklet. 49 pp.–1 f.–frontispiece. Paperback, cloth-bound cover. Slight browning on the cover; the rest of the volume is in good condition. (Théâtre de l’Infanterie Dijonnoise Collection). Etched frontispiece depicting ‘The Chariot of the Dijon Infantry’. First edition of this farce written in the local dialect, published from the manuscript held in the Dijon library. Printed in a run of only 108 copies. - [BRECHILLET (Etienne)] - [PERARD]. *Le retour de Bontemps* (1632). A play attributed to the collaboration of Pérard and Bréchillet. Dijon, Darantière, 188; in-12 booklet, 70 pp.–1f.–frontispiece. Paperback, folded cover. - Volume in good condition. (Théâtre de l’Infanterie Dijonnoise Collection). Etched frontispiece depicting the standard of the Mère Folle company of Dijon.
