LA CAILLE (Abbé Nicolas-Louis de). Elementary Lessons in Optics. New edition, revised, corrected and expanded. Paris, Guerin & Delatour, 1764, in-8, IV-204 pp. – 12 figures. Contemporary marbled fawn sheepskin binding, plain spine with decoration, title label, marbled edges. – Handwritten bookplate on the half-title page: ‘Victor Dugar, 7 August 1799’. Upper cap and corners slightly rubbed. This famous treatise, in use throughout the 18th century, contains information on the manufacture of corrective lenses. It also deals with perspective (including solar and lunar shadows). The line-engraved plates are folded.
